ACTA Southwark are sponsoring an evening with Mary McAleese on Thursday 23rd June (7.00pm to 9.00pm) at Wesminster Cathedral Hall. This evening will explore the vision of the Church which Pope Francis is urging us to embrace. Pope Francis has said "I want a happy Church with the face of a mother, who understands, accompanies, caresses."
Mary will be in conversation with Clifford Longley to explore the role of the laity in realising this vision.
Mary was President of Ireland from 1997 to 2001. She holds a doctorate in Canon Law and is currently 'Distinguished Professor' at the Centre for Irish Studies at St Mary's University, Twickenham.
Clifford is an author, broadcaster and journalist. He writes a regular column for 'The Tablet' and is a panellist on BBC Radio 4's 'Moral Maze'.
Please could attendees book here by clicking attending at the bottom of the details or email actasouthwark@yahoo.com so that we can monitor numbers. A donation of £10 on the day will be welcome.
The hall is behind the Cathedral. The front entrance is in Ambrosden Avenue, London SW1P 1QH.
