MISSION statement: Revised 2026

We are a group of Catholics, some of whom are ordained, brought together by our love of Christ’s Church and a desire to be part of the synodal renewal it needs.

Inspired by the legacy of the Second Vatican Council, and the call to Synodality for the Church of the third millennium, we want to contribute fully to the life of our Church so that it may be a more effective and inclusive sign of the Kingdom of God.

To enable this, we wish to promote listening, dialogue and receptivity within the Church, and with all people of good will, open to the promptings of the Holy Spirit.

Accordingly, we aim to facilitate opportunities to share experiences, practices and insights to discern our hopes and aims for the Church in the world today.

THEOLOGY statement:

ACTA is a movement built from below by clergy and laity alike in every diocese in England and Wales. It exists to give those people an effective voice. It is an instrument to establish and promote space for a trusting dialogue within a hierarchically structured people’s Church.

ACTA believes that the reforms of the Second Vatican Council are the only way forward for mission to modern society. It is not a small chapel of selected followers; it believes in the Church as a “big tent”, with open doors. As a free and representative association of believers, it seeks to liberate the expertise in the ranks, so as to bring added energy and witness to the Church in the world.

Support Pope Francis in the direction for the Church

Written by: Alex Walker

Dear highly esteemed Pope Francis,

Your pastoral initiatives and their theological justification are currently under vehement attack by a group in the church. With this open letter, we wish to express our gratitude for your courageous and theologically sound papal leadership.

In a short time, you have succeeded in reshaping the pastoral culture of the Roman Catholic Church in accordance with its origin in Jesus. Wounded people and wounded nature go straight to your heart. You see the church as a field hospital on the margins of life. Your concern is every single person loved by God. When encountering others, compassion and not the law shall have the last word. God and God’s mercy characterize the pastoral culture that you expect from the church. You dream of a "church as mother and shepherdess." We share your dream.

We ask that you would not veer from the path you have taken, and we assure you of our full support and constant prayer.

Press Release 1st November 2017

Written by: Alex Walker
Published: 31 October 2017
ACTA [ A Call to Action] was established five years ago and the Leadership Team has compiled a report which will be presented to each of the Bishops of England and Wales in the next few weeks.
As a courtesy to the Bishops we would ask for press coverage to meet the embargo - Not before Wednesday 1st November 2017

It identifies the work the organisation has undertaken both nationally and at diocesan level. It demonstrates how, as an organisation, it has supported the work of the Synods and continues to act as a forum for respectful dialogue between laity, religious and clergy.

Chris McDonnell - Catholic Times Oct 6th 2017

As we are approaching the sixth anniversary of the introduction of the New Translation of the Roman Missal in Advent 2011, the Motu Proprio of Pope Francis issued in September has been a
welcome document. In it he returns authority concerning Liturgical translation to each conference of bishops where it rightfully belongs.
